Our Story

In 2014, the Belmonte family purchased Wellington Cellars – a property already rich with history, old-vine Zinfandel dating back to 1882, and a reputation for quality winemaking. The acquisition provided the Belmontes with something invaluable: a production facility and estate vineyards in the very heart of Sonoma Valley.

What began as a practical expansion quickly became a passion project. Inspired by the land and its potential, Henry and Vittorio Belmonte deepened their connection to French varietals, developing a winemaking program that showcases boutique Bordeaux-style blends and small-lot estate wines. The family continued to invest in Wellington’s growth. In 2017, construction began on a new barrel room and updates to the historic barn and tasting areas. That commitment culminated in 2024, with the opening of a completely redesigned tasting room, a more elegant and elevated space that mirrors the Belmontes’ hospitality and vision.

Today, Wellington Cellars produces approximately 3,500 cases annually, crafted almost entirely from the 24-acre estate. Guests are invited to experience the Belmontes’ love of French wines and family traditions, in a setting that honors the property’s history while carrying it into a new era.
